In this post I’ll show how to export your Firefox saved passwords to a nice html file for safe keeping in the event of a disaster. It’s true that there is already a handy utility called Mozbackup that lets you backup your Firefox profile including all your saved passwords, but this method does not let you view them. So if you’ve got the need to look at your saved browser passwords without opening Firefox, this post is for you. I myself had a corrupted Firefox profile where Firefox wouldn’t remember my passwords for some sites and having my saved passwords in a file helped create a new profile. Read more…

I’ve always wanted to create my own timelapse movie, but never had the money to invest into the equipment. With the CHDK firmware add-on for Canon’s Digic II, Digic III and Digic IV cameras it is now possible for anyone with a Canon camera to do it. The CHDK firmware add-on has been around for a while, but only recently supported my Canon SD600 Digital Elph point & shoot camera. Ever since I’ve been trying to find the time and conditions to shot one. Germany’s cloudy summer weather was perfect. Read more…

So far I have found four people with this identical problem. They all purchased an iPhone outside the USA (where in some cases laws have prevented Apple from locking the iPhone) and use it with either a pre-paid 3rd party provider or with an existing non-iphone contract AT&T sim card. The issue they have is that on normal calls the microphone doesn’t seem to work, but on speakerphone calls it works just fine. Basically on a normal call no one can hear them but if they switch to speakerphone it works fine. Read more…

It’s been a few months since I installed Windows 7 RC1 x64 and the initial glamor of the latest and greatest operating system from Microsoft has worn off. Although Windows 7 is both easier to use and more useful than ever, there are still some issues with 64bit computing that need to be worked out. When VISTA x64 was initially released the lack of available 64 bit hardware drivers made it virtually impossible to deploy. With Windows 7 I had hoped that Microsoft stepped it up a bit in this regard, but I was wrong. After my Windows 7 installation only 90% of my Sony VGN-FZ240E’s hardware was properly installed. I’m traveling to Germany in a few days and wanted to use my Garmin StreetPilot c550 to help me navigate the streets of Berlin. I got a used 2008 European Maps SD card off of Amazon for a few bucks and figured why don’t I try getting the maps onto my Garmin GPS. But somehow instructions on how to do this differ greatly online and the Garmin website seemed to have some major issues the day I was trying all of this out. Some sites suggested I needed some MapSource software while others said I needed the Garmin Map Updater…long story short, after some playing around, here is what I found: Read more…

On a recent weekend trip to Ojai I drove by this abandoned USA Oil/Gas refinery and stopped to take a few pictures. The site looks like it was initially picked over for parts, but then abandoned and left to rust for years. The entire site is like a ghost town with scattered abandoned homes in the area that have been partially boarded up. Oil pump jacks litter the surrounding landscape, some of which are still actively pumping, but the entire area around the Shell Ave exit feels like a large ghost town. Read more…

One thing I was surprised to find amiss in Windows 7 x64 was Windows Movie Maker. Well, it turns out that some people have managed to get WMM 2.6 (the version supplied in Windows XP) to work in Windows 7. But in the spirit of trying beta software, I thought I’d give the new Windows Live movie maker beta (WLMM) a try. So here is my review of WLMM beta. Read more…

So apparently Fox is launching a Bachelor clone for the horizontally challenged this Summer. It’s called More To Love and it features people who watch tv as opposed to people who usually star on it. I guess the belief is that Americans’ infatuation of seeing people fall in love on screen will somehow transfer to a reality show where chubby people deal with some unattractive realities. I must admit, I’m curious as to how this show will turn out…not because I am looking forward to its content, but rather because I am interested in the outcome of this social experiment. I want to see how target audiences will react to a show that exposes the realities confronting two thirds of all Americans. Will they like it? Lets find out…

Having come into some consulting money recently, I decided it was time for me to upgrade my Verizon Internet service from ultra slow to just regular slow at a mere $10 dollars extra per month. Previously I had been paying $19.99/month for 768k/128k DSL Internet service and with the upgrade I was supposed to reach a whopping 3M/768k. After placing the order online which promised free installation and equipment (and failed to mention the $19.99 modem shipping charge) I was on finally my way to watching HULU without the jitters (or so I thought).
